- Introduction – Outline of workshop content and objectives.
- Understanding our atmosphere – Management of the working atmosphere. The need for ventilation.
- Hazards posed by cryogenic liquids – Hazards posed by cold; cryogenic burns, hypothermia and frostbite. Expansion rates of cryogenic liquids. Hazards of oxygen depletion. The need to monitor atmospheres. Personal Protective Equipment. Treatment of cryogenic burns.
- Cryogenic vessels – Safe working practices with dewars and pressure vessels.
- Potential oxygen enrichment – Oxygen enrichment and potential flash combustion.
- Safe manual handling – Key principles to moving vessels safely.
- Safe Storage – Principles of safe siting and storage of cryogenic vessels.
- Practical demonstration – The demonstration will cover:
- Establish supply vessel operating pressure.
- How to reduce the operating pressure.
- Vessel labelling.
- Cleanliness of equipment, free from damage.
- Safe decant procedure.
