Description
Manual Turning. |
o Use centre lathe controls |
o Use appropriate measuring equipment |
o Prepare an operation sequence for a turned component |
o Set machines for the manufacture of a turned component |
o Start and stop a centre lathe and carry out an emergency stop |
o Manufacture a turned component to a given specification |
o Select, for given applications, suitable work holding devices and give reasons for the selections made |
o Mount, secure and align appropriate work holding devices |
o Use a mandrel to align the tailstock centre to the spindle centre |
o Mount work in work holding devices |
o Select the appropriate tool for a given turning operation |
o Use the correct cutting tools to manufacture a component to a given specification |
o Correctly mount and set a turning tool |
o Use charts to determine speeds and feeds |
o Calculate correct spindle speeds from given cutting speeds |
o Set the correct speed and feed on a centre lathe |
o Safely and correctly use a cutting fluid |
o Read engineering drawings to determine tolerance, surface finish and material requirements |

Manual Milling |
o Use milling machine controls |
o Use appropriate measuring equipment |

o Fit and assemble components to a given specification |
o Use a range of hand tools |
o Use a range of measuring and marking out equipment |
o Mount, secure and align a drilling device |
o Secure work pieces in a bench vice |
o Use charts to determine suitable spindle speeds |
o Calculate correct spindle speeds from given cutting speeds |
o Set the correct drilling machine spindle speed |
o Identify and use the correct cutting fluid for a given machining operation |
o Mount and set twist drills, machine reamers, counter bores and counter sinks |
o Select appropriate tools for a given fitting and assembly operation |
o Use tools and equipment to produce an assembly to given specification |
o Select and use appropriate measuring equipment to determine size and surface finish |
o Read and interpret engineering drawings to determine: |
